The Mission360™ System

See the whole organization. Start with the future. Strengthen what matters most.

Mission360™ is Sirianno & Associates’ integrated advisory system for nature-centered organizations. It connects strategy, leadership, governance, fundraising, communications, and organizational capacity through one outcome-first method — helping boards and executive leaders understand where they are, define where they need to go, and build the strength to get there.

Mission360™ at a glance

It’s not where you start. It’s why.

Mission360™ begins not with a point of entry, but with a point of belief. At its center is a simple conviction: stronger organizations protect more of what matters. That belief shapes the method, and the method shapes the work. The result is an integrated system that helps nature-centered organizations see the whole, strengthen the parts, and move forward with greater clarity, confidence, and capacity.

Why

We believe stronger organizations protect more of what matters.

How

Begin with the future. Work backward to what must be true. Move forward with evidence.

Every organization is a work in progress. Every system is connected. The work may begin wherever the greatest need appears — but the reason for the work begins at the center.

You may enter anywhere. But everything begins with why.

What

The work organizations ask for.

Strategic planning. Organizational assessment. Governance. Fundraising and campaign readiness. Executive and board advisory. Executive search and leadership transition. Communications and positioning. Nature center development and visitor experience.

Many qualified consultants provide these disciplines, and provide them well. Most consulting begins with the assignment — the plan, retreat, search, campaign, governance issue, or facility question.

Important work. But the assignment is only the visible part of the challenge.

How

Begin with the future. Work backward to what must be true. Move forward with evidence.

Mission360™ starts with the future the organization is trying to create. From that future state, we work backward to identify what must be true: the evidence we need, the choices that must be made, the capabilities that must exist, the resources that will be required, the leadership needed, and the sequence that makes progress realistic.

Then we move forward — with priorities, ownership, implementation, and proof.

Backward to what must be true. Forward with proof.

AI accelerates research. People retain judgment.

Current AI tools are used responsibly as an analytic accelerator — to deepen research, benchmark peers, organize evidence, test scenarios, surface patterns, and speed synthesis. That gives the consultant and client team better information sooner and creates more time for the work only people can truly do.

AI does not replace judgment, trust, context, tradeoffs, board alignment, leadership, accountability, or the human responsibility to choose what matters most.

Built with your organization

The work is built with your people — not done to them.

Mission360™ is designed to strengthen the people already responsible for the mission. The consultant brings method, outside perspective, research discipline, pattern recognition, facilitation, and accountability. The board, executive leaders, and staff bring institutional knowledge, relationships, judgment, lived experience, and responsibility for the future.

The best work happens where those strengths meet.

We are not trying to create dependence on a consultant. We are trying to help an internal team see more clearly, align around what matters, make difficult choices with greater confidence, and leave the process better equipped to lead the work forward.

A process designed to leave the organization stronger from within.

Why

Nature organizations don’t exist to produce strategic plans.

A naturalist leading a group of children in outdoor environmental education

They exist to connect people with nature — to protect places, conserve wildlife and habitat, educate communities, earn public trust, and sustain that work across generations.

A strategic plan, a stronger board, a more capable executive team, a successful campaign, clearer communications, or a better visitor experience matters only because of what those things make possible.

Strengthening the organization is not separate from the mission. It is one of the ways the mission succeeds.

We believe stronger organizations protect more of what matters.

The point of all of it

Organizational strength is not overhead. It is mission infrastructure.

Why this changes the work

Most consulting starts with the assignment. Mission360™ starts with the future the organization is trying to create.

  1. 01

See the whole organization, not an isolated symptom.

  2. 02

Define the desired future before designing the process.

  3. 03

Use evidence and AI-enabled analysis to get better information into human decisions faster.

  4. 04

Connect recommendations to readiness, ownership, sequencing, implementation, and proof.

The practice architecture beneath Mission360™

Strategy. Leadership. Growth.

Every detailed service belongs to one of these three areas. Organizations engage where the need is clearest; the work is always understood in relation to the whole institution.

Pillar 01

Strategy & Organizational Planning

Understand where the organization stands, define where it needs to go, and build an actionable path to get there.

“We begin with the end in mind.”

Planning here does not begin with meetings held for their own sake. It begins by defining the stronger future organization — what it delivers, who it serves, and what it must be capable of — and then works backward to determine priorities, resources, responsibilities, measures, and implementation.

The result is a plan the board can govern by and the staff can actually carry out.

What this includes

  • Strategic planning and retreat facilitation
  • Organizational assessment and institutional diagnosis
  • Governance and board alignment
  • Organizational strategy and implementation planning
  • Nature center development and visitor experience planning

Pillar 02

Leadership & Executive Search

Finding the right leader — and preparing the organization for that leader to succeed.

“We do not begin with the vacancy. We begin with the future of the organization.”

This is sector-specific leadership advisory rather than generic recruiting. Boards are helped first to determine what leadership their organization needs for its next chapter, and then to find and support that leader.

The work extends past the appointment: a deliberate transition, a defined relationship with the board chair, and structured onboarding through the first 90 to 180 days.

What this includes

  • Organizational and leadership assessment
  • Leadership profile and position design
  • Executive search and targeted candidate development
  • Candidate assessment and board decision support
  • Succession planning and leadership transition
  • Executive onboarding and first 90–180 days

Pillar 03

Growth & Organizational Advancement

Strengthen the resources, reputation, relationships, and public understanding required to advance the mission.

Philanthropy, communications, and community trust are one system. Campaign readiness depends on the case a community already believes; a compelling public identity depends on programs worth describing.

Advancement work here is built on the revenue realities of nature centers, land trusts, and conservation organizations — membership, major gifts, stewardship funding, and capital projects.

What this includes

  • Fundraising and capital campaign readiness
  • Advancement and philanthropic strategy
  • Communications, brand, and positioning
  • Stakeholder and community engagement
  • Campaign planning and case development

Eight integrated systems

Assess. Lead. Govern. Advise. Plan. Fund. Deliver. Communicate.

Each system is an equal point of entry. Organizations do not need to engage all eight systems. Mission360™ simply keeps the challenge in front of you connected to the organization around it.

Engagement models

How the work is structured

Some organizations need a single facilitated session. Others need a phased engagement that runs through a planning cycle, a campaign, or a leadership transition. Scope is set after the first conversation, in writing, with a clear fee and timeline.

Assignments are tailored. Where a project calls for specialized capacity — search logistics, design, exhibit expertise — Sirianno & Associates assembles an appropriate team of experienced practitioners and remains accountable for the outcome.

  • Focused session

A board retreat, governance workshop, or facilitated planning day with preparation and follow-up materials.

  • Defined project

An assessment, campaign readiness review, strategic plan, visitor experience study, or executive search with a fixed scope.

  • Ongoing counsel

Monthly or twice-monthly advisory for an executive director or board chair, or implementation support through a plan's first year.

Where the work is delivered

Based in the Buffalo–Niagara region. Engaged nationwide.

Sirianno & Associates works from East Aurora, New York, in the Buffalo–Niagara region of Western New York. Organizations across Western New York, New York State, and the Great Lakes basin gain from that proximity: on-site retreats, board workshops, assessments, and site walkthroughs are straightforward to schedule, and the funding, regulatory, and program realities of Great Lakes conservation are already familiar.

Every Mission360™ system is also delivered for organizations well outside the region. Nationwide engagements are built around concentrated site visits paired with remote working sessions, so the depth of the work does not depend on the distance.

Regionally and nationally, the work most often begins with an organizational assessment, strategic planning and implementation, or an executive director search and leadership transition.
